Today at Media Options, we have an announcement for you, a new newsletter, our SEO and SEM clients and audience will really appreciate this. Hang out with us for a minute here. Listen to how it came together, where it’s going and meet our new contributor, Sean Markey.

Hey, I’m Tess Diaz, today with media options, and we have an announcement for you. Have you met Sean Markey joining us today? Sean straight out of Utah, hey Sean, how you doing?

Sean Markey: Good thanks.

And Andrew Rosener, I think you might’ve met him, the CEO of media options. Hello. So Drew, you love creating a successful business partnerships, adventures and you have been working with Shawn for awhile on a totally different venture, but in the process, Sean, your background as a senior SEO strategist has become more and more interesting as you apply that to the domain world. Tell us a little bit about your SEO background. Sean.

Um, I started doing SEO in about 2011. Um, kind of the good old days when you can get away with a lot more than you can now. Um, and, uh, just made a lot of mistakes but you know, kept, kept trying new things. Um, I’ve been, I’ve, I’ve in the past run two different SEO agencies before more recently going out on my own and I just kind of do my own thing.

Yeah, that’s a big deal. And you’ve done, you know, small businesses, eight figure plus venture backed companies. You’ve seen a lot of diversity in your, um, in, in your SEO work. Um, do you specialize in any particular type of SEO?

Um, really just in, um, like building websites with that are very content rich and that rank really well based on, um, you know, really optimized content in addition to all the other things like link building and optimized websites.

Okay. So you’re really concerned about the, the quality and the relevance and long term. Um, so you’re wearing a black hat.

Yeah. Not, not, not so much that. I mean maybe a little gray if I had to put a color to it.

No, no, no pressure. But then super cool. You’ve started seeing domain names with these backlinks and really looking at the authority behind domains, but you just can’t buy them. All

right. So, um, I, for the past couple of years have just been, um, looking through all the domains that are going to every day and, um, you know, looking to see what the history was, what kind of backlinks, what kind of relevancy would, would it make a, a good brand or would it be a site that one could build up to prop up another site? Um, but you know, with, with thousands of domains expiring every day, like I, I can’t buy everything myself. Um, and so I actually started a newsletter, um, a couple months ago yeah. In the spring where every week I just share like maybe the top 15 to 20, um, expiring domains for the week based on, you know, uh, is the domain name gonna make a strong brand? Does it have like the rich history of backlinks? Um, you know, there’s a lot of, a lot of startups that end up, you know, not working out, but they have coverage from all these huge sites like Crunchbase and ARS Technica and you know, Buzzfeed. Um, so they, they make a really a really strong domain, um, kind of with authority out of the Gates. And so those are, those are one of the domains that I kinds of domains that I look for.

And that’s a big deal that you put all that research and your expertise into it. Even others who have the SEO expertise don’t have the time to search through like you and ’em and those kinds of domains. We, we are excited to be putting in our newsletter. So drew,

so, so yeah, so I think, you know, let’s talk about why we’re all here,

which was that, uh,

you know, I had been working with Sean on a, on a totally separate project and, um, I was getting Sean’s newsletter and, uh, at some point, you know, he put out a note just saying like, Hey, I’m putting out this newsletter. I’m spending a lot of time digging up the top 15, 20 domains. Uh, you know, when I say top 15, 20 names, deeds top, you know, uh, based on SEO criteria. So this is not necessarily going to be the same type of names that Shane has on his list, uh, or, or really any other, any other lists that I’m aware of. And, um, and I found it super interesting and I bought a couple of names from his list and you know, uh, uh, you know, he put out a note just saying, Hey, I’m putting in all this work and uh, I’m not getting paid for it.

And so if anybody’s got any ideas about how to monetize this last, I think I’m adding a lot of value, but it’s not worth me spending the time if I can’t monetize it. And so I reached out and I said, well, you, you’re doing a great job curating this list. Um, you know, I’m a pretty big domain buyer and yours is one of the favorite newsletters I’m seeing out. And you’ve got a pretty big audience on our newsletter, so why don’t we move your content onto a, our newsletter and the, you know, let’s figure out if we can, uh, make something of it. So yeah, Nope. In speaking with a, a few of our clients who are, you know, SEOs and SCMS and marketing guys, you know, it seems to me that there is, uh, quite a big demand. Uh, there are a lot of people, you know, it’s funny if you go on the forums or you read the comments on blogs, you see people every week talking about this weird domain on go daddy was at shot or with seven words in it, and it’s sold for, you know, $12,000.

Like my weird domain with 12 words in eight must be worth $12,000. I don’t understand as much fraud is, she’ll date what ever people freak out. But the reality is the reason that domains sold for a lot of money, even though on that space, it doesn’t have many value, is that it had, yeah, a very attractive backlink profile that would have helped somebody who was trying to rank for a related keywords to what that thing has, uh, demonstrated authority for. Uh, it’s, uh, it’s, it’s a foundation. It’s, it’s, you know, it’s one of the strongest tools in, uh, in, uh, in SEO is yeah, if you’re starting from a domain, it’s got a strong backlink profile and it’s already got authority, you’ve already won half the rate. So, um, I thought it was a perfect fit for our audience. Uh, and it’s something that I’ve attracted a lot of value from.

And so, uh, you know, we bought E solar.com, uh, from an auction that, you know, first time I saw it was in Shawn’s his daughter. So there’s, there’s real value in there. Uh, and, uh, I wanted to help show on, you know, bring that to a much larger audience and hopefully we can all, uh, you know, benefit from that. So, uh, essentially where you wanted to announce it. We’re going to launch this, uh, this new newsletter. Uh, I think, you know, we’ve been working for months thinking about ways to uh, sort of rebirth our media options. Domain name, newsletter. Uh, I think it’s one of the oldest, not the oldest running domain brokers newsletter. Uh, we have probably one of the largest, or it may be the largest list, it’s, you know, 12 years running and it’s all organic. And so, uh, it seems like a perfect audience.

And the in a lot of our audience is marketers that understand SEO and meet these types of names for themselves and for their clients. And so, uh, we are going to launch this newsletter. Hopefully we’ll get the first edition out next week, the week of September 20 something, 22nd, 23rd, the week of my birthday as a matter of fact. And, uh, we’re gonna, we’re gonna give it away for free. Four weeks. We’re going to put it out once a week for four weeks. It will go to everybody who subscribed to our current newsletter. It will come and, you know, standard format. You don’t need to do anything. Uh, and it’ll just be different types of domains than you might be used to in our newsletter

and different types of buying process because these are two means at auction. So the, the traditional, the main deals, media options newsletter has always been domains that we are brokering and you contact us to buy them this? No, these are domains at, at various auction platforms.

Yes. And, uh, we will just basically be curating and delivering those domains that we think are the best SEO driven value, uh, domains each week. Uh, whether it’s at go daddy, your name, jet, you know, I think we’ll start with go daddy. Uh, the, we’ll be commissionable links, uh, hopefully, eventually, once we’ve got all that set up. Um, but the idea is to charge a small yet to be determined fee. Uh, we welcome everybody’s questions, feedback, complaints. Uh, this is a work in progress. You know, again, this happened very organically as you probably can tell from this video. Um, and you know, uh, it’s just, you know, it’s, it’s a, it’s a new service. So we are very open to feedback. We want your feedback, want to see how receptive people are to this. I have found a tremendous amount of value in Sean’s original newsletter myself.

Uh, and so I want to see if we bring that to all of you, if you will find as much value as I have. And uh, so we will give away the first force. Uh, you know, for one month it’s going to come for free. Again, you don’t need to do anything, but in those emails there will be a link for you to click in order to subscribe to be SEO newsletter, which I again, don’t, you know, wait to subscribe. We’re not going to start charging you, uh, the, you know, we’ll start charging you once everybody starts being charged. So it’s not that if you sign up from the first week, you start paying, you know, sign up so that you don’t forget. And if you get value, then you should, uh, you should continue. Uh, and I think if you are interested in buying domains because of their SEO characteristics, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better, uh, tool with this level of convenience. So, uh, pretty excited to see how the market responds. And, and, and uh, so far I think you’re, you know, feedback. Uh, it seems pretty excited,

so check it out. We’ll get started. Enjoy Shawn’s cheeky comments. He fits right in with the media options culture and, uh, and keep in touch. Get to know Sean. Reach out to him if you want or to drew or me. Sean, do you have an email you want to share?

Sure. You can reach me at sem@seanmarkey.com

Does your middle name start with an E by chance? Yes, we have an S E M guy whose initials are SEM. All right, keep in touch. We’ll see you all next time. Bye.
