« Back to Domain Name Dictionary | Definition of GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 will be implemented on May 25, 2018. GDPR is the result of the European Union’s January 2012 data protection (privacy) reform. Anyone doing business in the EU has to comply with this regulation, so practically speaking that includes any internet domain reachable from the EU.
The primary way this law will affect domain name users is accessibility to the WhoIs database, and as of April 2018, the domain community has not sorted out how this will be adjusted to comply.
