    Despite the seizure of its .com domain by the U.S. government, online poker room DoylesRoom says that its business operations have not been affect by Monday’s actions. On Monday, the domains of 10 online poker sites — mostly on the Yatahay Network, including DoylesRoom.com and TruePoker.com — were seized as a result of an investigation by the Homeland Security Office, with a warrant from a U.S. Attorney’s office in Maryland. Three defendants — representing the payment processors working with the poker sites — are accused of money laundering and running an illegal gambling operation.

    We’ve heard a few times that the lack of lawsuits from those who have had their domains seized is “evidence” that they know the seizures were legal and that they would lose any court case. I began to wonder about this myself, and spent the last two weeks contacting people on all sides of these cases and found the answer to be exactly the opposite: it’s not the site holders who are scared. It’s the Justice Department, and they seem terrified to have one of these cases actually go to court.

The so-called Top-Level Domain program will be ratified by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) in Singapore on June 20, followed by a four-month global communication campaign. After that will come a 60-day window to apply for a Top-Level Domain name, which will come at a cost of $US185,000 ($174,388) to discourage frivolous applications.

    US authorities have resumed “Operation In Our Sites” and have seized several domain names associated with copyright infringement or counterfeit related crimes. Among the new targets are two sites that linked to copyrighted films hosted on third party streaming sites such as megavideo.com and veoh.com. Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has yet to officially announce the new operation.
