DomainSherpa Review – Feb 29: SkiSchool.com, VRVG.com, GoodWeed.com, 200x6N.com…

DomainSherpa Review with Michael Cyger, Ali Zandi, Andrew Rosener and Shane CultraThis is the show where we get into the minds of successful domain name investors – people we call Sherpas – and talk about the value of specific domain names. By listening to the Sherpas, we expand our thought process so we can become more successful investors ourselves.

In this DomainSherpa Review:

  • We learn what the Sherpas bought or sold recently: GoodWeed.com, VRVG.com, 200x6N.com
  • An investor’s portfolio is appraised: Motorhomes.review, Vr-cloud.io
  • Get your bids in soon for these NO RESERVE NameJet auctions: SkiSchool.com, Paddleball.com, CWSS.com, Siin.com
  • Plus, much more!

For each domain name portfolio, the Sherpas answer:

  • Which domains are valuable, and in what way?
  • What is the market value (both wholesale and retail) of the best domain names?
  • Which domains are worthless and should be dropped?
  • Which domain names may invite legal issues, such as a UDRP case or cybersquatting lawsuit?
  • Which domains do our Sherpas want to make an offer on?

We’re joined by three Domain Sherpas: Ali Zandi, Andrew Rosener and Shane Cultra.

nice show, guys. The plural question was interesting – there are so many subtleties, and a lot of it is based on intuition that you get after years of experience. And at the same time the market is always changing and you guys are changing and adapting with it.
I think Shane’s point is important – how there are so many different strategies for domain investing, and you have to find what works for you.
    Thanks!

  5. Zac says:

On an unrelated note, just came across the following article. As most, if not all, of us are running websites in addition to domains, the article should be of interest (if only just to pass on to your IT people to make sure your sites are safe).

    Liset,

I went through your list and found comparable names that relate to the names that you sumbitted, that I think are better and available for hand reg. I’m not saying these are good or that you should register them, just that I think they’re better. It took me about 20 minutes to find these names, but if you took a couple days to really look hard you could find much better names that you could sell. I think it just takes practice and learning.

Great job Josh. Someone already registered these and put them up at auction at Namepros and is tripling their money. Already proving to be much more profitable than the list in the show

      Shane

Great interview, fantastic output from the experts. Thank you very much.
I would like you to have a few interviews on Selling Domain Names, where exactly we can sell domain names easily. What are the tricks and traits that one should have to sell his/her domain names. Please shed some lights on this topic.
    Best regards.

  19. Scofield says:

I really enjoy your show. Inspired me as always.

    Just two quick questions:
    1. I kind of confused about the value of abbreviated 4L domain names. Like bbbw, vrvc and vrvg in your shows. There is no related search volume on these names. It depends on how you interpret it. As for brandable, if I am building a virtual realty video game business or a venture capital focus on virtual reality. I probably will not use the abbreviate of that industry as my company name or game title. You guys are experts on this, could you introduce more detail about investing abbreviated 4L domain names?

    2. Goodweed is a great domain name, but I am curious about how to build a business on that? Sell marijuana online? I happen to have goodweeds.com. Will that also be a good name to sell?

    1. Shane Cultra says:

      Scofield,

The answers to these questions would require several pages. This is a perfect example of why DNAcademy is so good. I am not a shill, that’s Michael baby, but your questions are the kind that are covered there. But let me try and answer in a short abbreviated form

      1. If a company were called Virtual Reality Video Games it is much better to have VRVG.com than VirtualRealityVideoGames.com . The latter is much longer to type. It’s been done for centuries. You’ve probably heard of 3M products. The name is Minnesota Mineral and Mining. Same idea . Shorter is better. There is a lot to learn about 4Ls and there is a lot of great info out there. Sounds like you may need to start at square one. But everyone does at some point

      2. Plain and simple GoodWeed is going to be made into a marijuana site. It can be anything related to cannabis and that’s why its valuable. GoodWeeds is not nearly as good and to me doesn’t make much sense. Good doesn’t go with the plural. It’s one of the biggest mistakes a new domainer makes, thinking that a “one off” or great name in the wrong form is as good as the original.

      Hope I helped a little

      1. Scofield says:

        Hi Shane,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply and usefully instruction for a newbie like me.
I am from China, not a native speaker. I can not tell the difference between singular and plural which one is better for a brandable domain name. Nor XSpace vs SpaceX (letter + noun or noun + letter?), LeapCoin vs CoinLeap (Verb + Noun or Noun + Verb?)
Those might be some basic knowledge I should have learned before invest the domain names. You are saying I can get training from DNAcademy? I will definitely check it later.

      2. Excellent explanation Sir. “Good doesn’t go with the plural. It’s one of the biggest mistakes a new domainer makes, thinking that a “one off” or great name in the wrong form is as good as the original.” Million Dollar advice. Thank you very much,

    2. Tony says:

Totally agree with Shane’s answer and would like to add one thing and hopefully you revisit and see this post. It sounds like part of your obstacle is a lack of mastery of the English language. That is no offense intended. So this applies to most Chinese investors and you have two options. Master English or use a tool like Google Keyword Planner.

If you use that tool, you would see that “good weed” gets 2900 exact monthly searches in the US while “good weeds” gets 40. That tells you that one phrase is more natural and therefore searched and more valuable than the other. The Chinese need to use this more.
