« Back to Domain Name Dictionary | Definition of DTVS – Domain Transfer Validation Service
Go Daddy offers a service called Domain Transfer Validation Service (DTVS).
DTVS is only available for Premier Accounts — those customers with about $5,000 spend per year through all products at GoDaddy.
DTVS prevents a domain name from being transferred to another registrar without the registrant verbally providing a unique pin number that has been specified in their account. As a result, every domain name transfer out of a GoDaddy account protected with DTVS will require a phone call to the registrant from an account executive at GoDaddy.
This additional step before domain name ownership change helps prevent fraud and theft of domain names.
GoDaddy premium listings, auctions, and Afternic listings all bypass the DTVS process and do not require verification to transfer accounts.
